My background as a clinician taught me this. Helping a family heal and moving a complex project forward actually require the same core skill: creating a shared understanding so people can make progress together. “I completed a full-distance Iron Man in Louisville, KY, and then, six weeks later, qualified in Philadelphia for the Boston Marathon. The Boston Marathon I completed became known as one of the worst weather years, with temperatures around 40 degrees, heavy rain, and driving headwinds. It was one of my biggest challenges yet!”
Pam’s Advice for Nonprofits
“In an era of tightening resources, the natural instinct is to protect your own organization and compete for funding. My advice is to fight that scarcity mindset. Look at your work through an ecological lens: how does your agency contribute to or detract from the health of the entire local system?
When we stop competing and start co-creating, we build something far more resilient than any single organization could achieve alone. Make ‘collaboration’ your word of the year, as it is ours at Empreinte. Find your people, plan together, and approach resources as a collective. Funders aren’t looking to piece together fragmented solutions anymore. They want the efficiency of a single, unified project that offers both broad scale and deep, specialized community impact.”
